How to Reduce Electricity Bills

Save On Lighting Bills: The residential homes in the United States of America or in the metropolitan cities in all of the world lighting on an average account for 20% of the monthly electricity bill. One may use dimmers on all the incandescent lights and fluorescent light bulbs. Using fluorescent lights are the better solutions than dimmers as it is not a practical solution. LED and OLED bulbs are the perfect solution in reducing electricity to a very negligible amount. The bulbs of these category consumes very less amount of electricity. More to say, the LED and OLED bulbs are the future of energy saving and cost effective lighting.

Heating: Winter sets for long in the United States and many other countries. The electricity bill for hot water account a substantial amount. The expenses for hot water covers up to 15 to 25% of the monthly bill. The right practice is to:

1. The heating level of the water meter below 115 degree F.
2. Do a little sacrifice by using cold water to wash your cloths (as much as you can).
3. Replace the shower heads with ones that are rated as "low-flow."
4. Ventilate your attic to prevent loss of heat. Remember, excessive heat in the attic disturbs the insulation.

Here are some more effective tips about reducing your electricity bills:

1. Add insulation to your attic. It is advised that if you have less than 12", increase those to 18.
2. Bring home the programmable thermostats. Use of the programmable thermostats can save money by turning off your system when you are not at home
3. Why condition the bedrooms when you are working in the kitchen or watching a movie in the hall. kitchen/den? Plan for controlled heating/cooling in your home with an efficient Zone Controller device. A zone controller heat or cool only the portion of your home you occupy. A zone controller is the most effective device in reducing your electricity bill.
4. Caulking around window frames and doors is a good step in saving electricity bills.
5. Install foam gaskets around light switch covers and plug covers on the exterior walls.
6. Be efficient, change your furnace filter each month.
7. Keep your shades closed on the South and West sides of your house during the summer months
